Does Working in Wales Mean I’m Now an International Photographer?
Ellie and Joe’s wedding at The Woodlands Tavern in Llanvair Discoed was one of those days that felt warm from the start. The weather was kind, the atmosphere was relaxed, and there was a genuine closeness between everyone there.
Set just outside Chepstow in a quiet Welsh village, it was a wedding that felt personal from beginning to end.
A welcoming venue at The Woodlands Tavern
I arrived at The Woodlands Tavern to meet Joe before the ceremony. One thing that stood out immediately was the height difference between us. Joe and his two brothers all stood well over 6 foot 3, while at 5 foot 4, I felt tiny in comparison, which gave everyone a laugh before the day had even properly begun.
The Woodlands Tavern has a private function room upstairs that works brilliantly for weddings. The shape of the room gives guests plenty of space while still keeping the ceremony feeling intimate, which can be difficult to get right in some venues.
A heartfelt ceremony
Ellie arrived a little later with her dad, who proudly walked her into the ceremony before giving her away to Joe.
From the moment they saw each other, it was obvious how much they meant to one another. The way they looked at each other throughout the ceremony said more than words could.
There was also an added sense of excitement to the day, as Ellie was expecting, making the celebration feel even more special for everyone there.
Photographs in the village garden
After the ceremony, we walked down to a nearby village garden for the photographs. Sometimes the simplest locations work the best, and this was one of those occasions.
The garden may not have been large, but it suited the day perfectly. It gave us a quiet setting for couple portraits as well as family photographs without needing to travel anywhere far.
With the weather staying pleasant, everyone remained relaxed, which always helps create more natural photographs.
Food, drinks and celebrations
Once the photographs were finished, we headed back to The Woodlands Tavern for food, drinks and the rest of the celebrations.
The confetti throw brought a burst of energy to the afternoon before the cake was cut and everyone settled into the evening.
The whole day had a lovely pace to it. Nothing felt rushed, and that gave Ellie and Joe the chance to properly enjoy every part of it.
A wedding full of warmth
Ellie and Joe’s wedding at The Woodlands Tavern was a reminder that a wedding does not need to be huge to feel memorable.
A beautiful ceremony, a relaxed village setting, and two people clearly in love made it a day that felt genuine from start to finish.
For couples planning a wedding near Chepstow, The Woodlands Tavern is a venue that offers character, flexibility and a relaxed atmosphere all in one place.
