Steff and Chris’ Bude wedding photography story began with a relaxed and intimate ceremony at Bude Registry Office in August 2023, surrounded by close friends and family.
Canal Portraits After the Ceremony
After the ceremony, we made our way over to the Bude Canal for their first set of photographs. It’s a beautiful spot and gave us the perfect backdrop for some natural, just-married moments. You could really feel the excitement between them, that “we’ve just done it” energy that always makes these photos come alive.
When the Weather Changed the Plan
The original plan for this Bude wedding was to continue the day at Black Rock Beach, but the Cornish weather had other ideas. Heavy rain set in, and it quickly became clear that we weren’t going to get the kind of beach images Steff and Chris had hoped for.
Now, this is the moment where a lot of people would simply accept it and move on, but I wasn’t prepared to leave it there.
With much better weather forecast for the following day, I suggested something a little different. We split the shoot. After spending a couple of hours back at their home celebrating with friends and family, we agreed to pick things back up the next day and head to the beach when the conditions were right.
And it paid off.
A Next-Day Shoot at Black Rock Beach
The following day brought exactly what we were hoping for. Warmth, sunshine, and that soft coastal light that makes everything feel a bit magical. With no time pressure and none of the rush of a wedding timeline, Steff and Chris were able to relax completely, and it shows in every image. The beach gave us space, movement, and a completely different feel to the previous day. The perfect contrast to their ceremony.
What started as a weather setback turned into something far better. A two-part story that gave them the best of both worlds.
It’s a great reminder that weddings don’t have to be rigid. Sometimes, the best results come from adapting, thinking on your feet, and doing whatever it takes to make sure a couple gets the images they truly want.
