Property Photography for Wild Wanderers in Holsworthy, Devon
Back in 2023, I was contacted by Wild Wanderers after they booked a four-shoot plus drone video package for their growing holiday accommodation business near Holsworthy. At the time, they had recently purchased and begun renovating the farm, with three on-site holiday cottages already available to guests.
The original brief was to photograph the cottages both inside and out, alongside the wider farm grounds that guests were free to explore during their stay. Even at that early stage, it was clear they had a strong vision for what the site would eventually become.
A Farm Stay Surrounded by Nature
When I first visited, much of the land surrounding the cottages remained largely untouched countryside, giving the whole site a peaceful and natural feel. A river ran along the bottom boundary of the farm, which guests could also access, adding another lovely feature to the property.
There were already a handful of animals on site including ducks, chickens, pigs and some particularly tame sheep that quickly became part of the experience for guests staying there. From a photography perspective, the combination of open countryside, animals and relaxed accommodation immediately gave the property a lot of personality.
Major Improvements Across the Site
By the time I returned in 2024, a huge amount of progress had been made. More hot tubs had been installed, along with a swimming pool and decking area, helping transform the site into much more of a destination for families and couples looking for a countryside escape.
Additional animals had also arrived, while the grounds themselves felt more developed and structured than during the original shoot. It was fascinating seeing how quickly the property was evolving while still maintaining its relaxed rural atmosphere.
A Holiday Destination Continuing to Grow
When I visited again last year, the changes were even more noticeable. Fencing and gates had been added to better separate different parts of the farm, a dedicated goat enclosure had been created and pathways now guided guests more naturally down towards the lower land and river area.
One of the most imaginative additions was a fairy trail, which added a real sense of adventure for younger visitors. Alongside that, a children’s play park had been built and an outdoor timber-constructed licensed bar with seating and a pizza oven had been introduced, creating a fantastic social space for guests during the evenings.
Photography That Documents Growth
One of the most rewarding parts of working with businesses like Wild Wanderers is being able to document their progress over time. Each visit showed just how much work, creativity and personality had gone into developing the site into something far more than simply holiday cottages.
Even the sheep had become noticeably more confident and friendly roaming around the farm, adding to the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere the owners were clearly working hard to create. By the latest visit, they had also started renting out the main farmhouse itself, expanding the accommodation even further.
A Unique Countryside Escape in Devon
Wild Wanderers is an evolving project as a genuinely distinctive countryside retreat, blending holiday accommodation with outdoor experiences, animals and family-friendly features in a way that feels authentic rather than manufactured.
For property photography, locations like this are always enjoyable to capture because there is so much more to photograph than just the buildings themselves. The surroundings, atmosphere and experience all become part of telling the story. I’m looking forward to this year’s fourth shoot plus drone video, but I’m hoping that won’t be the end to our relationship as I have thoroughly enjoyed sending time with Serena and her family and witnessing the evolution of their project.
