A fun and welcoming wedding in Falmouth
Jan and Roy’s wedding in Falmouth was one of those days that felt relaxed from the very beginning. The weather was absolutely beautiful, with clear skies and sunshine throughout, which made the coastal setting even more special.
From a traditional church ceremony to sea-view celebrations at Falmouth Golf Club, the whole day had a calm and genuine feel that suited them perfectly.
A church ceremony at St Mawnan and St Stephen’s Church
The day began at St Mawnan and St Stephen’s Church, where Roy was already waiting when I arrived.
He was completely calm from the start, standing outside as guests gradually began to arrive before heading inside. Once inside, I quickly checked the light in the church and took a few early photographs of Roy and some of the first guests.
Although the sunshine outside was perfect, the church itself was very dark, so I asked for some additional lighting to be switched on rather than relying on flash. That helped preserve the atmosphere while still keeping the photographs natural.
Before long, word came through that Jan had arrived.
She stepped out of the car looking incredible in her white dress, while the bridesmaids in pink and the flower girl in blue made their way down the path ahead of her.
Roy remained as calm as ever as Jan walked down the aisle towards him.
Portraits with a sea view
After the ceremony, Jan and Roy were guided through the rear of the church into the old graveyard behind.
It turned out to be a perfect place for a few quiet portraits before heading to the reception. Between the old church doorway, a weathered gate and the sea in the distance, it gave us a beautiful backdrop that felt completely in keeping with the day.
Those quieter moments straight after a ceremony often produce some of the most natural photographs.
Reception at Falmouth Golf Club
From the church, everyone made their way to Falmouth Golf Club for the reception.
I arrived slightly ahead of the couple, which meant I could capture them arriving before they were welcomed with a glass of bubbly each.
The reception room was a lovely space, with its own bar and a second room with a dance floor for the evening celebrations later on.
With guests relaxed and enjoying drinks, it felt like the perfect time to take Jan, Roy and the bridesmaids away for some portraits.
Wedding photos overlooking the coast
A member of staff drove us down in a golf buggy to a quiet spot overlooking the sea.
The location had a pergola that framed the space beautifully and gave the photographs more shape. It also gave everyone a chance to relax away from the main reception for a few minutes.
The bridesmaids were especially good fun during this part of the day, which made the whole session feel easy and natural.
A relaxed evening celebration
After returning to the clubhouse, the wedding breakfast was served.
Jan and Roy kindly invited me to join them for the meal and even gave me a seat at the top table, which was a first for me at a wedding like this.
Later in the afternoon, I photographed family portraits on the balcony before taking the main group photograph with the drone.
The cake was cut, the disco began, and Jan and Roy shared their first dance before guests filled the dance floor.
By the time evening guests started arriving, the celebration was in full swing.
A wedding full of warmth
Jan and Roy’s wedding was a reminder that the best weddings are often the ones that feel effortless.
Beautiful weather, stunning coastal views and a genuinely warm group of people made the whole day enjoyable to photograph.
